Excellent plenary sessions and panel discussions took place at BioTrinity 2011, featuring senior licensing professionals and corporate venture arms of global pharma such as Merck, GSK, Boehringer Ingelheim, Merck Serono, Shire as well as VC's and Investment Banks such as Edmond de Rothschild, DFJ Esprit, Aelios Finance, Lucia Capital and others...

  Panelists including many of the newer major CVCs (Corporate Venture Funds) representing global pharma venture arms as well as an "anti-CVC" will discuss why their big corporate parents wanted to get into Corporate Venture funding, the audience will learn what's new from established players, including geographically. The panel will discuss whether CVC can and will fill the gap left by traditional VC, and where the next wave of capital will come from, covering topics including whether CVCs can bring over their US syndicate partners to do deals in Europe, what it's like to have 3 corporates in your syndicate, and the types of companies that attract corporate venture funds.

  Highly successful panelists chaired by Olivier Litzka from Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners will discuss how they achieved their successes covering acquisition and IPO. Iain Buchanan will discuss how Sanofi spin-out Novexel was positioned for acquisition for £266m, Ernest Loumaye will discuss Preglem's acquisition by Richter for Euros 337m,Dirk Reyn will go into Movetis successful IPO raising Euros 85m and its subsequent sale to Shire plc for Euros 428m, while David Solomon will discuss Zealand's successful IPO which raised $60m before Christmas.

  Panelists representing issuers, investors and corporate advisors will discuss their experiences of fundraising on the public markets, what investors want to see, what went wrong and what has gone well, the importance of cornerstone investors, as well as give tips to potential biotech issuers on how to do its successfully. The issuers featured include EKF Diagnostics Holdings plc (AIM: EKF) which recently acquired Quotient Diagnostics Ltd, and therapeutic vaccine company Scancell Holdings plc (AIM: SCLP) which listed on AIM in 2010.
